I read several reviews before choosing which trails to hike and decided to start with Rocha do Chambre, as people described it as easy to moderate compared to Misterios Negros, which was rated moderate to hard. I am not a regular hiker, but I’m not out of shape either. Surprisingly, I found Rocha do Chambre much harder than Misterios Negros, but also more entertaining and scenic. The terrain was incredibly varied. I’d say hiking shoes are essential, as there’s a section with volcanic stones and many areas covered with tree roots. The part where you have to climb using ropes can be quite challenging if, like me, you don’t have much upper body strength. I was very glad I followed the advice to hike the trail clockwise (there was no rain and there was not much mud). Some people mentioned that it gets harder at the 3 km mark, but they were probably hiking counterclockwise, since after 3 km the trail became much easier for us. I would definitely recommend this trail and would do it again. When we were leaving around 14:00, there were so many cars parked, so I’d recommend arriving before noon.

This was an incredible hike! We arrived at the trail head first thing in the morning around 8a and we were the first people there, there was a good amount of parking available. Starting in the gravely fields you would not think a couple hours later you’d be climbing up to those viewpoints. You see a nice variety of the endemic plants throughout the hike, the views are unparalleled, it’s a must if you’re looking for a hike on Terceira. A nice pretty well marked loop, we followed a trail map on AllTrails, cell service the whole time as well so no worries.

Amazing hike! Took about 2h45m, including stops for some pictures and videos. Nice little waterfalls, feels like a fairy tail.

It is a spectacular hiking route in which the landscape changes many times. You start on a red dirt trail, then volcanic rock until you enter a forest of towering trees where you feel like you are in a movie. It is not a very easy route but it is totally worth it. I visited on a rainy day and it was even more magical.

Wonderful hike with a variety of scenery, but it's very easy to get off trail here at the upper sections due to the fact that there are other trails shooting off of the main trail. Of the 4 trails that we hiked on our trip, this was the only one where we lost our way. The trail is listed as 8.8 km and 2.5h total time with an elevation gain of ~220m. Some parts of the trail are quite slippery when wet so you'll be going slow if there's any moisture; take your time. We lost our way probably half ways through the trail where it offshoots to Biscoitos so watch carefully and monitor where you are on Google Maps (or your mapping app of choice) so you don't get lost. It was easy enough to make our way back to the main road, but we definitely missed out on some of trail.

A beautiful trek in the center of the island between calderas and a complete immersion in the local flora. Very friendly, nice and super-prepared guide! Just a note: the route is partly on unstable surfaces (lava stones and mud).. it is for this reason very beautiful but to keep in mind.
GetYourGuide

Very nice hiking trail. Tour professionally organized.
